Advice for patients to protect their vision and eye health during the winter months and as increased working from home takes place has been issued by the College of Optometrists.
Tips to reduce eye strain were included, such as monitor positioning, minimising reflections and applying the 20-20-20 rule, as well as wearing sunglasses to avoid being dazzled by low while driving.
Daniel Hardiman-McCartney, clinical adviser at the College of Optometrists, said: ‘As we approach the winter solstice and the days are shorter and darker, you may notice an increased need to wear your glasses. This is because when there is less light available, your pupil expands which reduces the eye’s depth of focus, and means that you notice blurriness more.’
The College added that patients should visit their optometrist for an eye examination if they have any issues and practitioners could download campaign materials from its website.
