Braemar Finance has released the results of a study it commissioned that investigated the impact of Covid-19 on the optical sector.

The study was conducted in July, and polled opticians on a number of issues. Half of those polled expected the size of their business to remain the same over the next 12 months, while 18% anticipated contraction and 32% expect growth.

In terms of future hiring, 38% answered that they would be employing fewer people while 12% said they would hire more staff.

Professional bodies were highly rated by the study participants, with 33% feeling ‘very supported’ and 63% feeling ‘somewhat
supported’. Just 4% of respondents said they felt ‘let down’.

Revenue expectations were also polled, with 60% of practitioners planning for a revenue decrease while 39% were planning for an increase.
