Eye advice service provides support during lockdown

The project was developed by Visibility Scotland with Optometry Scotland

A consultation service has provided clinical advice on eye diseases to people in Scotland living with sight loss during lockdown.

The Ask the Expert project was developed by Visibility Scotland with Optometry Scotland and put people in touch with dispensing opticians and optometrists.

Practitioners spoke to people over WhatsApp and Zoom about conditions such as glaucoma when routine and elective procedures were paused because of coronavirus.

Lindsay McDowall, head of service at Visibility Scotland, said: ‘Our team of staff and volunteers have been working from home since mid-March, calling hundreds of people with visual impairments to offer emotional support, advice on technology and daily living tips.’
