City, University of London student Avnish Rainath Rosunee has been named as the first optometrist in the UK to pass the College of Optometrists’ Professional Higher Certificate in Contact Lens Practice.

A City statement said Rainath Rosunee, who also completed an MSc in Clinical Optometry at City, would be the first person eligible to use the affix Higher Cert CL in the UK.

One of the course leaders, Dr Byki Huntjens, said: ‘We’re incredibly proud of Avnish and his achievement. Since 2015, we ran this course twice and Avnish is the first optometrist to complete the portfolio and viva voce following successful completion of the OSCEs and written exam.’
