Glasgow event gives visually impaired opportunity to play football

Scottish event allows visually impaired a chance to play football

An event hosted by The Rangers Charity Foundation in partnership with RNIB Scotland in Glasgow has been set up to allow people with sight loss a chance to play football.

The event, which will take place at Drumoyne Football Club in Govan between 1-3pm on July 28, will demonstrate how specially adapted footballs called futsals give players with sight loss audio cues.

RNIB volunteer Neil Atkinson, who has the sight condition Stargartd, helped put the event together. He said: ‘The aim of this initial session is to bring together people with visual impairments who would be interested in playing football and gain feedback on the types of sessions or groups they would like to take part in, whether that is youth football, walking football groups, or even a competitive Futsal club like the one I currently play for.’
