Glasgow optometrist suspended

Uzma Afzal has been suspended for six months

An optometrist in Glasgow has been suspended from the General Optical Council’s register for six months after a committee found her fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct.

Uzma Afzal’s suspension related to her failing to carry out adequate eye tests, falsifying records and failing to maintain adequate records.

Allegations against Afzal dated back to when she was employed as a pre-reg between November 2013 and October 2014.

Among the committee’s findings were failure to conduct and record visual field tests, failure to record results of intraocular pressure tests and clinically inappropriate management of binocular vision anomalies.
