Glasses thief sentenced

A man receives 10 years in jail after pleading guilty to robbing optical practices

A man has been sentenced to over 10 years in jail after pleading guilty to robbing a series of optical practices across London.

Richard Royston Dyer, of no fixed address, threatened staff with a bottle which contained acid before stealing multiple pairs of glasses.

This tactic was repeated in several optical practices across London, and in two cases Dyer caused minor injuries by spraying staff with acid.

Various practices on Victoria Street, Charlotte Place and Regent Street were targeted by the 50-year-old, who robbed some practices repeatedly.

Dyer was handed his 10-and-a-half-year sentence by a judge at Southwark Crown Court last month, having been remanded in custody since his arrest in September.
