​Clarification made over ready reader exemptions

Ready reader exemptions within the Opticians Act that permitted the sale of adjustable focus spectacles from Adlens include products from other manufacturers, the General Optical Council has confirmed.

In May, the GOC published a statement on the sale of products from Adlens that said it was not in the public interest in prosecuting unsupervised sellers of adjustable focus spectacles within the adjustment range 0 to +4 dioptres.

A GOC statement said: ‘We have since then been contacted about other similar products, and we are issuing this statement to clarify that we will take the same approach to all such products.’
