GOC removes Slough optometrist from register

GOC erases Slough-based optometrist Sufyan Malik from register

The GOC has erased Slough-based optometrist Sufyan Malik from its register.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired because of reasons of misconduct due to inappropriate and sexually motivated behaviour towards two patients. He also failed to provide a signed and written prescription after a sight test for one patient.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Pamela Ormerod, who said: ‘The Committee was satisfied that in the particular circumstance of this case, the public interest outweighed that of the Registrant because of the nature and seriousness of the misconduct and the degree of risk posed to the public by the Registrant. It therefore determined that erasure was the necessary, proportionate and appropriate sanction.’
