GOC suspends Fazeela Makda

Nuneaton-based optometrist suspended for six months

Nuneaton-based optometrist Fazeela Makda has been suspended from the General Optical Council’s register for six months by a fitness to practise committee.

It found her fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct in relation to accessing patient records without clinical justification and amending records without examining patients.

While working at Tesco Opticians, Makda amended records using a colleague’s login in order to conceal deficiencies in that optometrists’ record keeping.

Tesco Opticians carried out an investigation in 2016, during which Makda falsely denied changing patient records. The committee found her actions to be misleading and dishonest.
