GOC suspends Nasir Butt

Fitness to practise found to be impaired by reason of misconduct

Nasir Butt, an optometrist based in Manchester, has been suspended from the GOC register for a period of 12 months.

His fitness to practise was found to be impaired by reason of misconduct relating to ‘dishonestly falsifying a patient’s record, failing to carry out an appropriate examination and failing to record a number of matters in the clinical notes’.

Committee chair Rachel O’Connell, said: ‘The dishonesty in this case is particularly serious. To falsify a clinical record is a matter of the utmost gravity. The committee has concluded that the registrant’s fitness to practise is currently impaired on public interest grounds as well as on grounds of public protection.’

Butt has until September 12 to appeal against the ruling.
