Hampshire optometrist argues in favour of new optometry masters course in Portsmouth
Author: Chris Bennett
A new optometry course in Portsmouth would provide newly-qualified optometrists with the right skills in the places they are needed, argued Andrew Matheson in the Viewpoint article in the week's Optician.
He said he had often been disappointed by the quality of optometry student applying for pre-registrations posts and combining the pre-reg period into the final two years of a more practically based, four year course is a positive step. He said the course would look at applicants' people skilled to ensure the right sort of clinicians were produced while the course content would look to the future with the equipment used and topics studied.
