Harris Opticians offers free sight tests to Chernobyl children

Harris Opticians provides Chernobyl children with free eye tests

Harris Opticians has provided children affected by the Chernobyl disaster with free eye tests.

This is the second year that the West Kirby and Heswall in the Wirral practice has offered this service. Optometrists John Harris and Nicola Hill have given eye examinations to seven Belarusian children so far and the rest of the group will receive a sight test during the next two weeks.

Children will receive glasses if needed and a goody bag with gifts donated from local shops.

Practice manager Christine Gore said: ‘These children do not get regular tests at home, so we were delighted to host the children in our practice. We sometimes take eye tests for granted in this country, but for them it’s so important. They were all incredibly friendly and excited to be here. It’s always an incredibly rewarding and humbling experience and if we have made even a little bit of difference to their lives, it will be worth it.’
