Importance Australians place on eye health

35% of Australians do not have regular eye examinations, says a new report

A new report has found that 35% of Australians do not have regular eye examinations, with 12% saying they have never been for a sight test.

Reasons for not visiting an optometrist included cost, belief that they have perfect vision and being afraid of the results.

Those that have had their sight tested said they did so because they experienced poor long-distance (82%) or short-distance vision (81%), floating dots (58%) and light sensitivity (47%).

The findings have been published by membership organisation Optometry Australia in its 2020 Vision Index, which assessed the importance Australians place on eye health through an independent survey of 1,000 people.
