John Rose takes delivery of Heidelberg OCT Angiography Module

Kingston-based independent optometrist John Rose has become the first in the UK to take delivery of the latest Heidelberg Engineering OCT Angiography Module (OCTA) on the OCT2 platform.

Rose has had a Spectralis for seven years, but the OCT2 upgrade was advertised as double the speed of image acquisition.

He said the faster acquisition was ‘a massive advantage in clinic’ and praised the OCTA’s eye tracking system with retinal recognition, particularly for monitoring subtle changes in neuro-degenerative disease such as glaucoma.

Rose added: ‘I am future-proofing my practice. Hospitals are bursting at the seams and there is going to be some trickle down of care to optometry. The technology allows us, on the high street, to visualise within seconds the structure and vasculature of the retina as well as information about blood flow.
