Independents must invest in technology

Independents need to offer advanced eye exams to patients, study says

Around 20% of independent practices do not offer advanced eye examinations to patients, according to Myers la Roche.

The study, which examined the level of equipment and services provided by independent practices, found that 18% of independent practices did not provide either fundus photography or OCT scans.

The study also found that 29% of practices surveyed upgrade less than a fifth of their patients to the advanced test, with Myers la Roche recommending a target of at least one third.

Myers la Roche warned that independent practices who failed to invest in new technologies risked being left behind multiples.
