Kata fishes for compliments with latest collection

Kata Eyewear is launching its autumn 2003 collection that incorporates the 'Ying and Yang' of fashion Ð textural elements with sleek, minimal designs.

A three-dimensional fish is sculpted onto the temple of two new styles in the Gaia Collection, which pays homage to nature through its organically inspired designs. The frames are made of titanium and details such as fins, tail and scales are evident on the outer and inner temples.
Another inspiration in the Gaia Collection, which is influenced by the beauty of simple, everyday objects, is the hand-lashed fences of Japanese Zen gardens. Four 'twigs' are bound together in an offset fashion, to form the temples.
Use of space is an important design element in the minimalist Ethos Collection, where frames are fashioned out of a single titanium eye wire without the interruption of solder points. The company points out that the open space created by the lenses becomes the defining essence of models Kai, Tempo and Mondo.
The Chakra and Spazio sunglasses are oversized with eight-base lenses and also use open space for heightened dramatic effect.
With Juno, Tulsa and Kumo, rich Japanese and Italian handmade plastic are integrated with metal.
With Pasha and Punto, sheets of titanium are sculpted to create a bevelled profile, as with sunglass styles Caribou and Pampa.
The 16 new styles will be on show at Silmo and are available through Kata Europe in Italy.
