Maui Jim has started production on a new prescription lab next to its distribution centre in Braunschweig Germany and could start shipping products as soon as December this year.
Hans Penzek, vice-president Europe for Maui Jim said prescription sunwear in Europe now accounted for 25% of sales and future potential for the sector looked strong.
The new lab will service the European market along with India, the Middle East and China and will cut down lead times, Penzek said.
He also revealed that 100 European practices, including 30 in the UK are taking part in a pilot project to produce clear ophthalmic lenses. ‘Maui Jim has decided to step up to the next level and wil become an “as-one” eyewear brand,’ he added.
