Microsoft designs patent for blood pressure monitoring glasses

Microsoft has filed a patent for spectacles that monitor the pulse and blood pressure of the wearer by using optical sensors.

Every sensor was able to measure the wearer’s pulse by recording reflected light. The sensors were positioned at different distances from the heart to collect the correlation between pulse transit time and systolic pressure, the first number recorded in a blood pressure reading.

This currently experimental device could continuously and passively monitor the blood pressure without the need to manually measure using oscillometric cuffs, it said.

The end goal was to reach a size of spectacles that fits all and can be bought off the shelf.
