Miru’s effective Monthly option

Multifocal contact lenses have improved massively in recent years.

Modern materials have improved comfort and reduced the threat of hypoxia and the race is now on to perfect adaptation and vision. Menicon’s Miru Monthly is a silicone hydrogel multifocal that introduces the concept of a decentred near zone. The zone is kept in the right place by positioning the lens on the eye with an indication triangle pointing to the temple. The lens handles well so getting the triangle into position was not really a problem.

The indication triangle is fairly easy to see and the lens was not prone to folding itself inside out. In practice the lens offers all day comfort and provides good vision at near and far. In common with other multifocals, vision is affected by light conditions so performance does drop with light levels and a growing pupil. In these conditions it was intermediate vision that became less clear. An effective lens, worth trying on presbyopes including those struggling with traditional designs.
