Moorfields Eye Hospital announces successful bid for funding a new eye care facility

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has announced that it has successfully bid for government funding for a new eye care facility.

It has secured almost £20million in funding for Oriel, the name of the research and education facility that featured in the proposal bid. Oriel will relocate all services from Moorfields and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology to the new facility at a site near St Pancras Hospital.

David Probert, chief executive officer for Moorfields Eye Hospital, said: ‘We're very pleased that we have been successful with our bid. This is fantastic news and is a really exciting opportunity for us and our plans to design, build and operate a new, integrated eye care, research and education facility with the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.’

This has followed Moorfields hosting a series of exhibitions displaying preliminary designs for Oriel from five shortlisted teams. The winning design will be announced in January 2019.
