Inspired by the creativity of Vienna’s 7th district, Silhouette spin-off brand Neubau Eyewear has updated its product portfolio with the addition of three frames made from environmentally friendly material.
The new polymer has been made from oil extracted from seeds of the castor plant. A highly renewable natural resource, the castor plant was said to not compete with food crops and could be planted in marginal land instead of food production land.
During growth, there is no need for pesticides or fungicides treatment, relying purely on natural rainfall, it greatly reduces the need for scarce water supplies. The production process of castor oil has low energy dependence consisting simply of de-husking and pressing. The whole manufacturing process uses significantly less energy and effectively reduces carbon dioxide emissions.
Pictured from the new collection are the Bob and Valerie (below) ophthalmic styles.
Bob has a retro rectangular silhouette with dropped nose bridge, while Valerie sports a deep, round profile with gentle upswept brows for subtle femininity.
