New ABDO president looks to the future

​Clive Marchant has been inaugurated as the new president of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians

Clive Marchant has been inaugurated as the new president of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO).

At a ceremony at the ABDO Optrafair Dinner in Birmingham on April 15, Marchant, who is also a contact lens optician and director of the Colin Lee group of practices, said: ‘I’m delighted to take to take over the ABDO presidency from Fiona Anderson who has done a fantastic job during her term of office.'

Looking to the coming years, Marchant said the industry ‘will see the first cohort of contact lens opticians accredited to provide MECS service’ and that this would be merely one of several initiatives to ‘involve dispensing opticians within the expanding range of enhance services’.

He also welcomed the ‘record number of students’ studying optics at university and argued the ‘demand for training has identified the need for our National Resource Centre’ that will ‘become the home for ABDO examinations’.
