Northamptonshire OO to retire after 33 years

Northamptonshire optometrist Graham Whiteley will retire on November 3 after 33 years in the optical profession.

He has been working at WPS Optometrists in Sheaf Street, Daventry since August 1967, nine years after graduating from Aston University. Since arriving in Daventry, Mr Whitely has had an active social and working life. He has sat as a member of the Clinical and Technical Committee of the Association of Optometrists, helping to develop legislation for VDU users and investigating aspects of drivers' visual problems. Socially, he enjoyed playing cricket and soccer for Staverton Village and was active in Daventy & District Round Table and Daventry 41 Club. Commenting on his decision to retire at this stage, he said that he was happy to retire early knowing that the business he helped start was in the good hands of James Sutton and Vincent Proctor and would continue to be a caring, successful one into this new millennium. To mark the occasion, WPS Optometrists held a surprise party which was attended by past and present practice staff, former colleagues and local friends.
