Former Optician editor and lifelong optical writer Shelagh Hardy has died at the age of 82 on July 3 at Eastbourne District General Hospital.

Hardy graduated from Oxford in 1958 and joined the editorial team of Manufacturing Optician which her father, Bill Hardy, then owned and edited. She became consulting editor from 1962-68, and served as the editor of Optician under Ken Green.

After leaving Hatton Press Hardy continued to write about optics – particularly lenses – well into her 70s. She was a regular visitor to UK and international tradeshows, and most recently Shelagh was writing for Optical World.
