Optegra Eye Health Care has invested in the technology SMILE at its Manchester facility.

SMILE, or Small Incision Lenticule Extraction, is a ‘bladeless, flapless, minimally invasive alternative to laser surgery’.

The technology allows laser eye surgery to be performed with only a small incision (2mm wide), which naturally heals and thus maintains the strength and integrity of the eye while reducing risk of future issues.

Dr. Clare O’Donnell, head of Optegra Eye Sciences, said: ‘Our surgeons in Queen Anne Street, London, have been operating now with SMILE for the past 24 months and we have been impressed with the outcomes.

‘SMILE procedures at Optegra have secured a minimum of 20:20 vision for patients. For many, this latest, third generation laser eye surgery offers the most suitable solution to their vision correction needs.’

Optegra’s £500,000 investment in Manchester means it will be the only facility in the North West of England to offer the service.
