OrCam Technologies has signed a three-year ambassadorship agreement with Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi and hosted a launch event in Barcelona.
The Israel-based company has formed the partnership with Messi to increase awareness of the challenges faced by the blind and visually impaired community globally.
Messi met with blind and visually impaired individuals at a launch event in Barcelona and gifted them an OrCam MyEye device, an assistive technology solution.
‘The emotion was incredible. Meeting with this amazing group of people from around the world was truly a magical and inspiring moment,’ Messi said at the event.
Participants in OrCam’s Dream Team project are from different countries to highlight that approximately 300 million people worldwide live with blindness or visual impairment.
Messi said: ‘Witnessing each of the members of the Dream Team trying out the OrCam MyEye features, it was clear that this would be a life-changing device for each of them. I am proud to be an OrCam ambassador to truly make a difference for so many.’
Professor Amnon Shashua, co-founder and co-CEO of OrCam, added: ‘We are convinced that this collaboration with Messi, who is the embodiment of maximising potential and an individual who is admired worldwide, will allow us to reach millions of people in need.’
