Safilo: Cleaning up the oceans

The eyewear manufacturer Safilo has produced sunglasses made entirely from recycled ocean plastic for Dutch non-profit environmental organisation, The Ocean Cleanup.

Taken from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP), the frames use an upcycling process that allows types of plastic that are traditionally difficult to recycle to be used in creating a high-quality, safe material.

The limited-edition frames each carry a unique QR code that provides information on the project and the specific location that the pollution was removed from, with each frame enabling cleaning of 24 football fields worth of the GPGP.

Available in a deep ocean blue colour, the wayfarer shaped frames sport a lighter blue tint and come with a buoyant carry case.
