Retail director holds women's golf fundraising day

An Irish retail director has raised significant funds culminating in an ‘all eyes and ears’ golf day in preparation for an eye care mission in India.

Lisa Walsh, store director of Liffey Valley Specsavers in Ireland has helped raise more than €50,000 for the Hope Foundation ahead of a trip to the charity’s clinic in India this autumn, with a team of optometrists and dispensing opticians.

Walsh said: ‘Last year was my first one involved with the Hope Foundation charity that supports the development of underprivileged sections of society in India.

‘We raised €11,000. This year my target was €35,000, enough to run the clinic in Kolkata for a whole year. Thanks to the kindness and dedication of Specsavers colleagues right across the country we have surpassed that already.’

The women’s charity golf event raised €8,000 for the charity, which will be spent at its Kolkata clinic providing sick street children with emergency health care.

‘These guys have nothing, and we are so used to correcting people’s vision here that we almost take it for granted – we really are making a difference in people’s lives and I think that is so important to understand,’ Walsh added.
