Specsavers and the International Glaucoma Association (IGA) have launched a £1m health information campaign to raise awareness of glaucoma and encourage people to have regular eye exams.

Coinciding with World Glaucoma Week on March 12 to 18, the campaign will include TV and national press advertising, online activity and posters and health information in Specsavers’ practices.

The campaign will initially highlight findings from research carried out by City University that men were 16% more likely than women to suffer advanced vision loss on diagnosis of the condition because warning signs were often ignored.

The multiple has also made a commitment glaucoma detection and monitoring, by making sure that each of its practices has least one OO that has completed the WOPEC (Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre) Level 1 glaucoma accreditation by the time World Glaucoma Week takes place.
