Specsavers launches eye home schooling tool

Specsavers has launched an online learning hub

Specsavers has launched an online learning hub as a tool for parents to teach their children about how eyes work and eye health during the pandemic.

The multiple has developed educational activities for children in Key Stage 1 and 2 from an information pack that its optometrists used in practice.

It includes eye-themed colouring templates and ‘how to’ guides for activities such as making a pinhole camera and drawing eyes.

Specsavers explained that the packs are designed to reduce screen time as children are using digital devices more during the pandemic.

Giles Edmonds, clinical services director at Specsavers, said: ‘While it’s important that children keep occupied, if there are not enough breaks, excessive screen time could be damaging to their sight. Eyes are not designed to be fixated on a single object for a long period of time so can often become strained when we focus on screens, especially if they are a smaller laptop, tablet or smart device.’
