Specsavers rolls out e-commerce offering

Patients in the UK can now buy ophthalmic frames from specsavers.co.uk

Patients in the UK can now buy ophthalmic frames from specsavers.co.uk after the multiple introduced e-commerce functionality to its website last week.

The online proposition was developed and tested in partnership with the multiple’s joint venture partners. Buyers will be asked to name their local practice, which will receive the proceeds from the sale. In return, the store will deal with any questions about purchase, checking pupillary distance measurements, fit, returns or aftercare if required.

‘Opening our online store is a game-changer for our customers,’ said Chris Carter, Specsavers UK trading director. 'We know they increasingly want more choice about how they shop with us, so providing high-quality products and great customer service is another way we are making buying glasses even easier.’

A limited range of frames glazed with single-vision lenses is currently available, with the entire Specsavers range planned for launch in the coming weeks. Patients will be carefully guided through how they can measure their own pupillary distance to add to their prescription data online. Complex prescriptions will not be processed online and customers will be directed to a practice.

The glasses are shipped in environmentally friendly packaging and can be returned to their local store or by post, within 90 days of purchase for any reason.
