Student’s Indian hospital placement

A second year optometry student recently travelled to Hyderabad, India

City, University of London second year optometry student Twinkle Bhuva recently undertook a two-week hospital placement in Hyderabad, India.

Bhuva successfully completed an application process in summer 2019 and was funded by the Hospital Saturday Fund to visit the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.

While there, Bhuva was assigned to different clinics each day, gaining experience across contact lens, cornea, cataract, glaucoma and prosthesis clinics, among others. Bhuva also observed a case involving a 12-year-old child with coloboma iridis, a rare condition.

She commented: ‘The hospital was equipped with state-of-the-art facilities ensuring high quality care to each patient and the optometrists and ophthalmologists were able to answer any questions I had. The experience has really encouraged me to explore hospital optometry as a career.’
