The Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) board of directors has cancelled the TFOS 2020 conference, which was due to take place in Cernobbio in Italy on September 9–12.
It acknowledged that because of the pandemic, Italy could restrict border entry at short notice and require a period of quarantine upon arrival.
The event cannot be rescheduled due to legal restrictions and an online conference will not be offered instead because of the interactive nature of the sessions.
Registrants will be reimbursed by the TFOS conference secretariat, Jaka Congressi, and the TFOS booking agency will be in contact to refund hotel bookings.
