Valli Opticians has urged optical professionals to support its campaign for greater emphasis on Personal Child Health Records.
Known as red books, the Child Health Records have been given to new parents and carers as a national standard health and development record. Moin Valli, optometrist and managing director of Valli Opticians, has stated that he wants the information included in these books to be clearer about children’s eye health.
Valli said: ‘There seems to be a general lack of awareness among parents of the importance of regular eye examinations by an optometrist from an early age. We believe that one reason for this may be the level of information about children's eye health in the Personal Child Health Record. There is no reference to visit an optometrist at all for a full eye examination.’
Valli Opticians has launched an online petition calling for this addition to the book. You can sign it by searching for Valli Opticians on change.org.
