Multiple gives vital piece of diagnostic equipment to Dublin hospital

Vision Express has donated a vital piece of diagnostic equipment to Temple Street Children’s University Hospital in Dublin thanks to fundraising across eight of its Irish stores.

The €14,000 kit, which was funded by Vision Express employees offering free glasses MOTs, will help children affected by developmental conditions such as Down’s syndrome.

‘In recent years we’ve discovered that many children with Down’s syndrome have difficulty focusing up close,’ said Temple Street consultant paediatric ophthalmologist Ian Flitcroft, pictured left. ‘Identifying who needs help and fixing it with something as simple as bifocal glasses can significantly impact education and development.’

Members of the ophthalmology team believe the new open field auto-refractors will provide more accurate insights into how a child’s vision is working due to its ability to measure both eyes simultaneously.
