US online spectacle retailer develops prescription check app

US online spectacle retailer Warby Parker has developed a prescription check app which allows customers to conduct a sight test through their smartphone and computer.

Users are required to answer initial questions about their location, eye health and age to determine if they can use the app. They are then given a 20-minute test which measures refractive error.

Results can be reviewed by an optometrist who will then confirm whether a previous subscription is still correct. If a new prescription is required, the app suggests a comprehensive eye test is needed.

It is currently only available in four states in America, with plans to extend the service in the future.
