The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers held its annual service this week in which the new master and wardens of the group were presented.

Felicity Harding was named as the master of the company after serving as a court assistant since 2012. Meanwhile, Contamac business founder John McGregor was named as upper warden and Huntly Taylor as renter warden.

Following the installation service, past master professor John Marshall announced the winners of the company’s 2017 bronze medal competition award for research. Geraint Williams, a consultant ophthalmologist at the University of Birmingham, was awarded the Ruskell medal for his paper on a blinding form of conjunctivitis, while Deanna Taylor won the Master’s Medal for her paper on the real-life impact of dry age-related macular degeneration.
