As Optrafair comes around again, it is a good time to reflect upon the latest developments in optometry and eye care.

As I have hinted at in previous weeks, there are, as always, some new and exciting additions to optometric instrumentation at the show. At least a couple of these will be launched at the exhibition and so, if you are unable to attend, watch this space as details emerge.

So what might the big themes be? As always, there are great strides forward in ophthalmic imaging. I am old enough to have attended the event some years back where a few of us were mocked for suggesting OCT might be the next big thing. I seem to remember someone saying: ‘No optometrist in their right mind would want to pay that amount for something that is designed for hospital use.’ How wrong they were.
