Freedom Day’s postponement has tested British stoicism to the limit but the best way forward is to remain positive for the future and adapt.
A lot has changed over the past 15 months and Optician is working with the profession and the industry to make the most of a dismal period.
Celebration may not be uppermost in most people’s minds but, with the launch of the Optician Awards (front cover May 21), Optician is determined to make sure optical professionals are recognised for their actions during the pandemic. This year will feature not just the past, but the future and the here and now across a comprehensive line up of categories. I’m expecting a mass of entries for our new CooperVision-sponsored Covid Hero Trophy.
Supported by our sponsors, Optician has made a commitment to the profession for it to meet, face to face. The date is the presentation of the 2021 Awards and we’ve booked the Grosvenor Hotel on London’s Park Lane on December 2. Put it in your diary as a glittering black tie celebration of excellence and freedom. See more at www.opticianawards.co.uk.
Back to making the most of the present, Optician is hosting another series of webinars, this time on recruitment. The last few months have got a lot of people thinking about their lives, careers and reassessing what is important to them. These Thursday night sessions will give ECPs the opportunity to hear a range of views on career progression and changes in direction. It also gives you the chance to quiz our experts on a range of topics from pay packages, to post-Covid confidence, ways of working and much more at www.opticianjobsweeklywebinars.co.uk.
The webinars are free to attend and can be viewed on
demand from the Optician website after the live broadcast. Post your questions live on the night or email them for me to pose to our panelists.
