Bosses used to tell their staff what to do, if the workforce did what it was told the business made a profit and everyone was happy. Well, that was the theory.

The modern day mantra is all about engagement but how well is that being achieved?

I can’t remember the last time I attended a conference, workshop or product event when this inclusive approach wasn’t held up as the way forward. But the bit usually missing is how to achieve that involvement within a team. Just telling someone to be engaged doesn’t work.

The strongest teams are those that work collaboratively, have a common purpose and those that share and celebrate success together. Better still workforces that want the business to succeed because they care and relate to their colleagues on a human level. These are all qualities exemplified by Optician Award winners.
