Chris Bennett: Business as usual despite political uncertainty

Acuitis should be applauded for not falling prey to the paralysis of business

Theresa May felt the need to call a snap general election this week to create some clarity in bringing about Brexit but, for French optical chain Acuitis, the entente appears as cordiale as ever.

Politics is a drag, but if you are running a business with international investment decisions to be made, the type of politics which has raged for the last couple of years must be a nightmare. Luckily for society, and the economy, businesses plough on with plans drawn up on the fundamentals of commerce, in the real world, rather than the chatter taking place in the political bubble.

Acuitis, the French optical group, has followed so many of its country folk, in jumping on the Eurostar and making a home for itself, on the very day Article 50 was triggered, in London. With anything up to 400,000 French nationals now believed to be living in London it seems like a smart move for a recognisable optician to follow them. But that’s not the whole story.
