Audiology presents a whole new area of care for some practices

New opportunities are something the optical business is not short of but how should practices react when offered the chances to provide a completely new healthcare discipline to their patients?

Retail optics is bombarded by a barrage of new products and services it could offer to its patients but practices are surprisingly reticent when it comes to take up. An analogy often used by suppliers to the profession is that offering patients older products is a bit like your car dealer wanting to sell you the same model of car you bought 10 years ago. It just wouldn’t happen.

Technology moves on and presents new opportunities for the practice, and better care for the patient. It may be fear of non-tolerance, extra chair time or worries over cost that prevents practices from routinely offering the latest products. But it is undeniable that multifocal contact lenses, new progressive design, orthokeratology, lens coatings and new contact lens materials all offer superior performance to what many people currently wear. So how about hearing care?
