Optical practices are not happy with the way students are being educated

Everybody loves it when a new kid starts at work. They are enthusiastic, keen and best of all they know how to work all the latest technology. Not so in optics.

Optical practices are not happy with the way students are being educated and the GOC is trying to figure out how to put that right.

More than 50 responses have been received by the GOC following its invitation for stakeholder responses on its Strategic Education Review and some common themes emerge.

We know the population is ageing, that technology moves fast and, sadly, that many optometry students emerge ill-prepared to deal with patients. We don’t know what technologies will emerge, if the NHS will ever get its act together and if government will change legislation.
