View from the High Street: Summer and stressed out teens

Judy Lea makes a point of mentioning optometry as a career path to teenage patients

As I start to write this column, I would first like to express my thanks to Ross Campbell for his excellent contribution to this column each month since early 2016. I have certainly enjoyed and looked forward to his monthly musings and hope I can live up to the high standards he has established as he moves on to his new challenge as director of optometry advancement, which he is combining with his store director role.

June, on our high street, is always pleasantly busy, with an increase in what I call the seasonal appointments. These include the child-free adults who are fitting in their holidays before the schools break up. Many will have left it until the last-minute to realise they want either new prescription sunglasses or more daily contact lenses. Fortunately, we can usually help them out in their hour of need and ensure they enjoy their well-earned holidays.
