Last week I contacted another optometrist to request some information about a patient’s current spectacles. While adjusting the spectacles for the patient I had heated up the frame which had caused the lens coatings to craze over. I now needed to rectify this error and so needed some more details about the patient’s prescription, type of lens, date of last sight test, etc.

My initial worry was that the optometrist I contacted would be reluctant to give me this information because of the new GDPR regulations. However, to my amazement it was not the GDPR that was the problem but just the total hostility thrown back at me by the staff at the other practice. To say they were obstructive would be a nice way of putting it.
