Scottish opticians win award

Urquhart Opticians scooped the 2020 Ayrshire Business Excellence Award.

An Ayrshire opticians has been awarded a regional business award. Urquhart Opticians, an independent optometry group with practices in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Troon and Prestwick, scooped the 2020 Ayrshire Business Excellence Award at the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner.

The award recognises small to medium sized business which deliver excellence across their operations. A length application process required applicants to evaluate their own performance before three finalists were shortlisted. This year’s finalists were Urquhart Opticians, William Duncan Accountants and science and technology company Merck.

The practice was bought in 2014 by business partners Alistair Duff and Peter Telfer, although it was established over a century ago. On winning the award, Duff commented: ‘When Peter and I first took on Urquharts we had an ambitious vision for patient care, customer service and business practice. Thanks to our amazing and dedicated team, we’ve been able to realise this, and this award is very much a recognition of all the hard work and dedication of every team member.’
