Two weeks ago, I expressed concern that the return to wider practice could go the way of the dental profession, where practitioners were given eight days’ notice that they could reopen. Oh, they also heard the news from the mainstream media.

Well, optics has only gone and bettered that farce. Speculation about the date when practitioners could see ‘routine’ NHS or private patients again has been lingering for a couple of weeks – and I include myself as one of those speculators, so I accept responsibility for adding to the noise. But last Friday (June 12) practices were given the go ahead to resume private testing from the following Monday (June 15) in line with other non-essential retailers.
