We need to help patients understand the importance of timely follow-up appointments

Working in practice my perception is there has been an increase in the number of patients with glaucoma who are reporting that their annual hospital check-up appointment is overdue. Talking to colleagues locally this was something everyone had noticed and one person, new to the area, commented that our locality was actually far better than others where they had worked.

Clearly delaying appointments for glaucoma check-ups puts patients at risk of the disease process causing unnecessary visual loss and so one expects there would be recognition of the issue at the local hospital and a huge amount of effort on their part, in conjunction with their clinical commissioning groups, to expedite a solution.
