Most suppliers to the world of optics are dependent on a healthy and sustainable independent sector

Most suppliers to the world of optics are dependent on a healthy and sustainable independent sector. With the multiples squeezing the margins of their suppliers, there is a danger one of the first costs the supply chain will look to cut back on is research and development which is vital to optics. For the independent practitioner, one of the huge benefits is the ability to interact with suppliers, and decide which products to stock.

Suppliers are able to sustain healthier margins with independents, always recognising the important role the buying groups play. It is very important a vibrant and sustainable independent sector is maintained, and AIO is working to this end.

The recently launched AIO Practice Support Network with our partner organisations Eyeplan, NEG, Specs Network and Myers La Roche is one of the key initiatives designed to bring fresh blood to the sector and to ensure new practices are successful and profitable for the long term. Particularly for those who have just acquired an independent practice, or are thinking of setting one up, the optical world can be very daunting so AIO has brought together a wealth of talent and expertise to support independent practitioners in those early years.

Another important initiative is AIO’s new Eye Promise quality mark which will go live in over 20 pioneer practices in June. Eye Promise will become the point of differentiation for independent practices and play a key role in educating the public of the importance of comprehensive eye care. Eye Promise promotes a set of independent core values shared by us all about how we care for our patients; all in a patient-friendly way.

By joining the AIO you can benefit from the Eye Promise – the mark of great eye care.
